Privacy policy
Last updated July 20, 2026
Unfade ("we", "us") restores and colorizes old photos. This policy explains what we collect when you use tryunfade.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
What we collect
- The photo you upload. We need your image to restore it and give you the result. It is the core of the service.
- Your email address. Collected by our payment processor at checkout, so we can send your receipt and a copy of your restored photo. We ask for no email before you decide to buy.
- Payment details. Handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Usage and device data. Basic analytics about how the site is used (pages viewed, actions taken, browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address) so we can understand and improve the flow.
How we use it
- To restore your photo and deliver the finished file to you.
- To process your payment and send your receipt and photo.
- To measure, secure, and improve the service and our advertising.
- To respond to your support requests.
How your photo is handled
To produce the restoration, your uploaded photo is sent to Google's Gemini service, which processes the image and returns the restored version. Your original and the restored file are stored privately in Google Cloud Storage (not publicly accessible). We do not sell your photos, and we do not share them with anyone beyond the providers listed below that are needed to restore, store, and deliver your result.
Service providers we share data with
We use a small set of trusted providers, and share only what each needs to do its job. We do not sell your personal information.
- Google (Gemini for restoration, Cloud Storage for the image files).
- Stripe (payment processing and email collection at checkout).
- Resend (sending your receipt and photo email).
- PostHog (product analytics, in a privacy-preserving mode).
- Meta (advertising measurement). When you reach the preview and when you buy, we send Meta a record of that event. If you have provided an email at checkout, it is sent to Meta only in hashed (scrambled) form, so Meta can measure the performance of the ads that brought you here. We do not send Meta your photo.
How long we keep it
We keep your uploaded photo and restored result so we can deliver your purchase and let you download it again from your link. We retain them for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal or accounting obligations. You can ask us to delete your photos and personal data at any time, and we will do so unless we are required to keep something by law. Analytics records are retained according to our providers' standard policies.
Your choices and rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing us. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK, or California), you may have additional rights over your data, including the right to object to certain processing. We honor these requests.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data: your photos are stored in private, access-controlled storage and are served only through short-lived, signed links. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take your privacy seriously.
Children
Unfade is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. (Restoring an old family photo that happens to include children is fine, provided you have the right to use it.)
Where your data is processed
We and our providers process data in the United States. By using the service you understand your information may be processed there.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service evolves. We will change the "last updated" date above when we do.
